More photos from Moorea Part III

These photos are the next batch from Moorea. Apparently there is also a limit on the number of photos that can be uploaded at one time.
The first photo is one of some children that we met on our drive around Moorea. Please note the blond-haired girl -- a not uncommon sight on either Moorea or Tahiti -- and of course the one little boy who refused to smile.
The second and third photos were taken from the Belvedere, and show Cook's Bay (first photo) and Opunohu Bay (second photo). Opunohu Bay is where HMS Bounty sailed in looking for breadfruit, and you know the rest of the story.
The fourth photo is that of a ruined temple that one passes on the way up to the Belvedere. There are magnificent towering Tahitian chestnut trees growing up through the cobblestone-like temple floor.
The last photo is that of Moorea taken from Papeete -- the two islands are about twelve miles apart.

Hi From Joycee!
I've yet to figure out how to add remarks on the main blog so here are a few of my comments on Moorea.
As you can see the water and views are spectacular. But I also found the Tahitians so warm and friendly. We really tried to speak with them in Tahitian since the vast majority love their language as opposed to French which they of course speak fluently. I was very brave and snorkeled even though we did see an eagle ray in the water.
PS for Nora and Kathryn - you may notice your wonderful handmade bag over my chair in the photo where I am wearing the tahitian coronne. As for the coronne, what can you do when the natives are so gracious and offer you their gifts!!

Wow, the islands look much more beautiful than I had imagined; thanks for the pictures. We have plotted you as travelling to Australia now - we have a map in the kitchen - but looking at the islands I imagine it was hard to leave. Though it was easier for you to leave than it was for Cpt. Cook
